Anyone Hiked Yosemite?
I'm planning on heading out west this summer to Yosemite, around Mid-May. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Re: Anyone Hiked Yosemite?
The Vernal Falls hike is called the Mist trail and is a must hike.   The valley floor can get pretty crowded but once you get off the floor, you leave most of the tourists behind.  The Mist trail is probably the most popular but the upper Yosemite trail is also great and less crowded.  The 4-mile trail is another and gives great views of Yosemite falls.

Random notes.  Be prepared to gasp when you enter the valley.  Pictures cannot describe the sheer majesty that Yosemite is.  Be also prepared for traffic if its during trourist season.  Sometimes its best to park somewhat close to the entrances and take the shuttle if you're not staying in Yosemite.  Check out the climbers on El Capitan.  You will need binoculars to see them...often you'll see people set up with telescopes.  the climbers are THAT small.  If you're on a budget and don't have a camp site, you can stay at a hostel called the Yosemite Bug...about 12 miles outside Yosemite.  Something for every budget and the food is quite good.  Plus, you'll meet alot of young foriegn tourists.  If your into river rafting, the Merced river is close by but mostly class 2-3.  The lower Tuolumne River is about 45 minutes away I believe but is a great river rafting experience. mostly class 3-4.  The upper Tuolumne is class 5 and fergit about it!!

Re: Anyone Hiked Yosemite?
yes u can expect a gazillion people in the valley.  id suggest getting out of the valley ASAP to get a better experience.  we did half dome - it was nice.  bring a pair of leather gloves for the cables.  we overnighted it so we could be the first ones up in the morning - we had the entire dome to ourselves.  dont forget your camera!
