Dog Friendly

I want to take my dog on a hike. Any suggestions will help.  It doesn't need to be too hard but I'm open to suggestions. Help me out.

Re: Dog Friendly

Any if the hikes in the George Washington National Forest, and all except one or two (Stony Man Mountain) in the Shenandoah National Park will be dog friendly. The SNP requires a leash at all times, but the national forests don't. If you are interested in a group hike with your dog check out these guys: http://www.k9trailblazers.org/

Re: Dog Friendly

Dark Hollow Tr, the Big Meadows Nature Tr and the climb up Big Rag in SNP also don't allow dogs although I've seen people take dogs on Old Rag.

If your dog hasn't been active keep in mind that they have to get conditioned to hiking just like humans. Avoid overly rocky trails. It will tear up their paws. I personally wouldn't take a dog anywhere that rock scrambling might be required. You will have a hard time getting an injured canine out.
