Multi-day Backpacking in this region
I'm new to the area and need to do some multi-day backpacking.   What are the recommended areas without crowds or where I can pitch a tent away from the trail?

Re: Multi-day Backpacking in this region
#1 recommendation is the Dolly Sods Wilderness. Just note that it's a wilderness, so there are no blazes and signs aren't a guarantee. So if you're experienced, give that one a try. Because of its beauty, it is a little popular. If you really want solitude, go during the week. When I went on a Thursday, I saw no one. Friday a couple people. And Saturday when I left, the parking lot was full.

A general recommendation is the Great North Mountain area.
